1. General SOP

Ensure accurate documentation of work done and confirmation of the physical stock output; At change of shift or start of work, obligation to inform and hand over properly the status of machines and production.

2. Health, Safety and Environment SOP

Familiarisation with and observation of general and safety regulations, related to the machine & work towards achievement of zero incidents and accidents.

Knowledge and Skills
Minimum holder of KCSE certificate or its equivalent, qualification in mechanical artisan skills is an added advantage and computer skills.

Key Responsibilities:

An Insulator
Key Responsibilities:
1. Apply, remove and repairs insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, tanks and vessels to help control noise and maintain temperatures.
2. Cover, seal or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic.
3. Determine the amounts types of insulation needed and methods of installation based on factors such as location, surface shape and equipment use
4. Fit insulation around obstructions, and insulating materials and protective coverings as required
5. Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws inorder to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage.
6. Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures handsaws, knives, and scissors.
7. Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surfaces.
8. Read blueprints and specifications to determine job requirements.
9. Select appropriate insulation such as fiberglass, Styrofoam, or cork, based on the heat retaining or excluding characteristics of the material.
10. Distribute insulating materials evenly into small spaces within floors, ceilings, or walls, using blowers and hose attachments or cement mortar.
11. Fill blower hoppers with insulating materials.
12. Move controls, buttons, or levers to start blowers, and to regulate flow of materials through nozzles.
13. Remove or seal off old asbestos insulation, following safety procedures.

Sheet Metal Developers (Workers)
Key Responsibilities:

1. Select appropriate type of sheet metal, such galvanized iron, copper, steel, aluminum
2. Measure appropriate size of sheet metal.
3. Cut sheet metal by hand or using power shears.
4. Cut into shapes to be used in heating and air conditioning ducts.
5. Interpret blueprints to decide where ducts will go.
6. Bend ducts to form shapes.
7. Drill holes into ducts to bolt together.
8. Weld, solder, or rivet ducts together.
9. Smooth over rough edges with file.
10. Install ready-made ducts.
11. Work with work with fiberglass, plastics, and other nonmetallic materials.
12. Operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls to cut bend, block and form or straighten materials.
13. Install assemblies in supportive framework.
14. Use scribers, dividers, and squares to mark dimensions on materials.
15. Operate computer aided drafting (CAD) equipment to develop scale drawings of products or systems.
16. Operate laser beam cutter to cut patterns.
17. Inspect assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications.
18. Coordinate schedules.
19. Analyze and resolve work problems.

Industrial Coatings Applicator
Key Responsibilities:
1. Performs all types of industrial painting work and surface preparation.
2. Prepares various surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, sanding, sandblasting or other means as necessary.
3. Mixes, and blends various paints, enamels, epoxies, urethanes, and special protective coatings for specified consistency, and drying properties.
4. Uphold excellent safety practices and help maintain safe working conditions

Scaffolding Change Level
Key Responsibilities
1. fixing guard rails and safety netting
2. Design and preplanning of the scaffold including weight limitations, scaffold type, fall protection, tie-offs, supports, etc.
3. taking down the scaffolding after a job is finished.
4. setting base plates on the ground at regular intervals (these stop the upright poles slipping)
5. putting up the scaffolding poles (standards) and attaching the horizontal tubes (ledgers) to them with couples
6. unloading scaffolding equipment at the site
7. fixing the scaffolding to the building or structure to make it more stable, using short ‘tie tubes’
8. laying planks (battens) across the scaffolding for workers to walk on
9. Contact EHS for assistance and guidance in any of the duties associated with being a Competent Person

Scaffold Fixer (Erectors)
Key Responsibilities
1. Inspecting all scaffold components prior to assembly to insure that components used are of similar material and in good repair before becoming a part of the completed scaffold. This includes (but not limited to): mudsills, screw jacks, frames, braces, planks, access ladders, brackets, etc.
2. Maintaining fall protection requirements while erecting / dismantling scaffolds.
3. Providing a scaffold to the user that is free from recognizable and preventable hazards (i.e. fall protection systems in place, falling object prevention in place, appropriate access / egress to and from the scaffold, appropriate anchorage and stability of the structure, appropriate walking / working surfaces, maintaining appropriate clearances from electrical hazards, etc.)
4. Training of other scaffold users if needed.
5. Contacting and coordinating with the Competent Person regarding any issues associated with the erection of a scaffold.
6. Contacting EHS if there is a concern regarding the erection of the scaffold.
A Boilermaker
Key Responsibilities

1. Bell, bead with power hammers, or weld pressure vessel tube ends, in order to ensure leak-proof joints.
2. Bolt or arc-weld pressure vessel structures and parts together, using wrenches and welding equipment.
3. Examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections so that they can be repaired.
4. Inspect assembled vessels and individual components, such as tubes, fittings, valves, controls, and auxiliary mechanisms, to locate any defects.
5. Install manholes, handholes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, and feed water connections in drums of water tube boilers, using hand tools.
6. Install refractory bricks and other heat-resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels.
7. Lay out plate, sheet steel, or other heavy metal, and locate and mark bending and cutting lines, using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments or templates.
8. Locate and mark reference points for columns or plates on boiler foundations, following blueprints and using straightedges, squares, transits, and measuring instruments.
9. Position, align, and secure structural parts and related assemblies to boiler frames, tanks, or vats of pressure vessels, following blueprints.
10. Repair or replace defective pressure vessel parts, such as safety valves and regulators, using torches, jacks, caulking hammers, power saws, threading dies, welding equipment, and metalworking machinery.

Intern in Engineering
1. Oral and written communication skills, the ability to follow directions, as well as not being afraid to ask questions will ensure a productive internship.
2. Excellent Excel Spreadsheet skills is essential.
3. Patient, attentive to detail, fast learner, committed, able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately under pressure.
